Wraiths

A dark figure stands at the edge of your vision.

Silent. Motionless. Watching.

When you turn to look directly at it, it's gone.

For centuries, stories of Wraiths have emerged from folklore, legend, and personal encounters. Often described as shadowy apparitions, spectral doubles, or harbingers of death, wraiths occupy a unique place in the world of the supernatural. They are neither traditional ghosts nor demons, but something far more elusive—a presence that seems to exist between worlds.

In this episode of Bald and Beyond, we delve into the chilling history of wraiths and explore how cultures across the globe have interpreted these mysterious entities. From the windswept Highlands of Scotland, where the term "wraith" first gained prominence, to modern reports of shadowy figures lurking just beyond perception, we'll uncover the legends that have kept these spectral beings alive in human imagination for centuries.

What exactly is a wraith? Is it a spirit foretelling death? A supernatural double that appears before tragedy strikes? Or could these encounters be linked to psychological phenomena, sleep paralysis, or the tricks our minds play in moments of fear and uncertainty?

We'll examine famous stories and eyewitness accounts, investigate connections between wraiths and other paranormal entities such as shadow people, banshees, and doppelgängers, and explore why similar descriptions appear in folklore from vastly different cultures and eras.

Along the way, we'll ask some unsettling questions. Why do so many people report seeing dark figures from the corner of their eye? Why are wraiths so often associated with warnings and omens? And could there be a deeper reason why tales of these spectral watchers have persisted throughout history?

From ancient folklore and ghostly legends to modern paranormal investigations, this episode ventures into the twilight space where myth, fear, and mystery converge.

So dim the lights, stay alert to the shadows, and don't trust everything you see—or think you see—out of the corner of your eye.

Because tonight on Bald and Beyond, we're confronting one of the most haunting figures in supernatural lore:

The Wraith.
